Dutch Oven Cooking Class (February 24)

Dutch Ovens are large cast iron pots that are used over an open fire or with charcoal piled under and on top of the lid of the pot, for cooking or baking food. Everything from soup and meat to desserts can be prepared in them.

Learn how to cook in a Dutch Oven at a four-hour demonstration class. The class begins at 9:00 a.m. and starts with the basics:

  • Types of Dutch Ovens;
  • Recommended accessories;
  • Care and use of Dutch Ovens;
  • Cooking techniques;
  • Heat/temperature management.

No prior Dutch Oven cooking experience is necessary. At the end of the class students will get to try samples of the dishes cooked.

Dutch Oven cooking experts Russ and Susan Richins, from the Rockin’ RR Chuckwagon, are the instructors. They have written Dutch oven cookbooks which are available in the museum gift shop. Registration is necessary and the cost is $25 per person.
