Highlights
Superstition Mountain Museum is located in an area full of legend, history and intrigue. You’ll find us in the rugged 160,000 acre Superstition Mountain range in the Tonto National Forest in Central Arizona. Our focus is on providing visitors with an experience of the Old West. We provide an historical context that includes the region's Native American people, the life of early western settlers, local geology and industry as well as the legends promoted through film and media.
The Museum Gallery offers a detailed exploration of the history of this region with artifacts, multi-media, testimonials and docent-led tours.
History ExhibitsVisitors are treated to a working display of historic large scale model trains and learn about the prominent role railroading played in the settlement of the West.
Superstition Mountain RailroadThe large wooden structure overlooking the museum is a 100-year-old Cossak 20-stamp ore mill, a state-of-the-art piece of mining equipment that was used around the turn of the century in the West.
20-Stamp MillSuperstition Mountain Museum has a large collection of props, sets, posters and memorabilia connected to Western movie and television history.
ApachelandThe Superstitions are one of four mountains which mark the ancestral territory of the Apache People. The Village exhibit includes two brush structures, some call Wickiups (the Apache people call them “Gowah” --our home); a cooking area and hide drying rack.

Fun, family friendly historical site with a lot to see including replicas of old buildings, plenty of hiking, a gift shop and free lectures by locals describing how life was like. On Valentine’s Day Elvis was available at the church for weddings. They even had the old rock crusher up and working. The gift shop also has an indoor museum. For a small fee you can see items owned by locals and learn all about the local history. All funds and donations go back into preserving the area.

Excellent place to learn a lot about the local history of the Superstition Mountains. The gift store was absolutely fantastic and was filled with high-quality books about Arizona and southwest history, folklore, Native Americans, and the Wild West. We especially liked the large selection of locally mined semi-precious gemstones. The staff and volunteers at this Museum we’re all very friendly and helpful. Be sure to have a hat and water because it gets hot when you’re walking around the grounds.

I really enjoyed it here. While it is small, it is packed with information and visual stimulation if you enjoy history. The museum itself is clean and well organized for the small space it is currently occupying and boasts loads in local history. The staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable and I am looking forward to returning with my kids. A must see if you are by the Superstition Mountains. There are a few walking trails that are great for beginners and still enjoyable for more experienced walkers as well. The scenery is stunningly beautiful and never gets old. In certain seasons, they also have gun fighters and mule/donkey rides for the kids as well.

I’ve driven by this place countless times without ever checking it out. Finally did a little digging and it sounded interesting. And then I finally paid a visit this past weekend and was pleasantly surprised. Don’t expect High Street class; do expect old West charm, plenty of local history and lore, and the beautiful backdrop of the Superstition Mountains, not to mention a surprisingly good gift shop. Saturdays bring the added fun of gun fight shows with a friendly crew that welcomes photos during the show and posing with them after the show. For the price, this is well worth the visit.

Randomly stopped by on my way home from Lost Dutchman State Park and I was super happy I did! Very sweet museum with great views of the Superstition Mountains. Lots to see on site from a barn, trains, petting zoo on Saturdays, little gift shop, and a labyrinth – and even a chapel dedicated to Elvis. Cute fun stop for anyone visiting the area to learn more about the history of the area.
